Board of Management

Kalparrin is governed by a highly skilled and experienced volunteer Board of Management whose responsibilities are to uphold the organisation’s Constitution, set and maintain its strategic direction and oversee the governance of the organisation.

Kalparrin’s Board currently has 10 members appointed from 11 available positions:

Why Choose Kalparrin

The Board of Management meets at 7pm at Kalparrin on the second Wednesday of each month from February to December annually. Board membership terms are 3 years. Suitably qualified and experienced persons are welcome to apply for consideration of membership by direct application addressed to The Secretary, Kalparrin Board of Management c/- Kalparrin PO Box 93 Greensborough VIC 3088.

Board Member Profiles

President – Sarah Lukies B.Bus. LLB. MBA  Sarah was appointed to the Board in 2014. Sarah holds  Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Business and a Master of Business Administration. Sarah currently works for the global logistics company Toll Group and has a background in corporate and commercial law, litigation, insurance and risk management. She is passionate about working with Kalparrin to build strong, dynamic and inspiring programs for Kalparrin’s incredible kids and their families.

Vice President – John Allison  B.Eng (Chem) MBA  John is a Project Manager with CSL Behring and a specialist in the evaluation, preparation and presentation, support design and delivery of multi million dollar capital projects. He holds Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration. John’s impetus for joining the Board as a resident local to Kalparrin was to give back to the community by lending his experience and expertise to an organisation that supports others. John has a personal passion for education seeing it as a foundation for getting the most out of life and is actively involved in the RMIT Mentoring Program. As Chair of the Building Sub Committee John’s project skillsets are helping to drive Kalparrin’s expansion as it embarks on major building additions over the next 5 years to help accommodate Kalparrin’s rapid growth under the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Secretary – Damian Moore Dip. Bus. (Gov), FICDA  Damian was appointed to the Board in October 2014. He brings over 30 years’ experience in the Finance Industry, specialising in Business Credit, Risk Management and providing solutions for clients through every stage of their business life cycle – from start-up, through to growth, maintenance and succession planning. He is an active Volunteer with past Board / Committee representation in local sporting clubs and member based organisations. Damian is a passionate supporter of community organisations with a keen interest in community sector governance and risk management. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Community Directors Australia and current Chair of the Kalparrin Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.

Treasurer – Chris Hipwell B. Bus Acc CA Chris is a passionate finance professional with extensive experience in strategic management, commercial advisory, corporate governance, due diligence and boardroom discussions.  He brings over 20 years finance experience gained in medium to large organisations managing numerous system implementations and enhancement projects and budgeting and cost reduction assignments and complements this with a strong capacity in assessing company performance, developing personnel capability, identifying risk, and devising strategic operational responses. Chris currently works as a CFO in a large civil construction company and brings his significant financial acumen to Kalparrin at a crucial phase in the organisation’s rapid development and growth under the National Disability insurance Scheme.

General Member – Rob Cecala  Rob’s connection with Kalparrin was initiated over a decade ago through his children who attended Kalparrin. Rob is Kalparrin’s longest continually serving Board member and is passionate about Kalparrin’s family first approach and ensuring that everything done at Kalparrin drives the best possible outcome for the children it supports. Rob brings considerable skills and knowledge to the organisation from the building and construction sector and as a local Greensborough resident brings strong local knowledge and networks into Kalparrin.

General Member – David Farrell  David brings to Kalparrin a unique and powerful range of skillsets and experience that only defence force personnel can bring.  As a highly accomplished and decorated ex-military member within the Army’s Special Air Service Regiment and nine operational deployments overseas David brings new dimensions to Kalparrin in terms of strategic thinking, strong problem solving and robust leadership skills. Since leaving the Army David has established the Dave Farrell Group providing his own corporate coaching and mentoring to both private sector and government clients. Awarded the Medal for Gallantry (MG) in 2005 by the then Governor General of Australia, Sir Michael Jefferies, following six operational deployments in Afghanistan, David brings balance, capacity and fortitude to Kalparrin’s governance resources as it works towards meeting the constant demand for expansion of its services.

General Member- Kobi Leins  LLB Kobi was appointed to the Board in December 2017, and is a parent whose child previously accessed services at Kalparrin. Kobi holds a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honors) and a Bachelor of Laws, and has practiced in Berlin, Geneva and New York for the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and as a commercial litigator. Kobi is currently nearing completion of her doctorate in regulation of weaponry under international law, and brings extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, high level strategic and program development and a passion for good governance.

General Member – Veena Mishra GAICD As a qualified Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, an entrepreneur who has co-founded her own businesses and a past Director on several Boards, Veena brings enormous capacity to Kalparrin in the areas of market development, technology implementation and strategy formulation in the allied health, not for profit and corporate sectors. With Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science Veena’s contribution as an experienced and diversely skilled business woman adds greatly to Kalparrin’s exceptional Board capacity.

General Member – Maureen Bower GAICD Maureen is a senior manager at Australian Red Cross Blood Service and supports Executive Directors and the CEO of the organisation with resolving a diverse range of business and policy issues that affect the organisation’s operational and financial performance and reputation. Maureen brings broad Australian business and government experience in diplomacy, human resource management, manufacturing, security and risk management and the not for profit sector. With a strong background in healthcare, a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Graduate Diploma in Practice Management and as a qualified Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Maureen’s contribution to the Board is significant and directly relevant to the governance needs of Kalparrin.

General Member- Lucas Moon B.Bus. MBA CPA  Lucas was appointed to the Board in October 2014. He is an accomplished finance and commercial manager with extensive experience in the construction, engineering, technology and government sectors at a domestic and global level. He holds an MBA (Deakin University Business School) and a Bachelor of Business (Swinburne University of Technology). As a Certified Practising Accountant he has held a variety of senior financial and commercial positions including Commercial Manager at Lend Lease (current); Commercial Finance Manager – AIG and Project Accounting Manager – MWH Global.
