Kalparrin is governed by a highly skilled and experienced volunteer Board of Management whose responsibilities are to uphold the organisation’s Constitution, set and maintain its strategic direction and oversee the governance of the organisation.

The Board meets monthly from February to December annually. Board membership terms are 3 years. Board Member Profiles
President – Sarah Lukies B.Bus. LLB. MBA Sarah was appointed to the Board in 2014. Sarah holds Bachelor of Law, Bachelor of Business and a Master of Business Administration. Sarah currently works for the tech company Xero and has a background in corporate and commercial law, governance, insurance and litigation management. She is passionate about working with Kalparrin to build strong, dynamic and inspiring programs for Kalparrin’s incredible kids and their families.
Vice President – Veena Mishra GAICD A qualified Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, an entrepreneur who has co-founded her own businesses, Veena brings enormous capacity to Kalparrin in the areas of market development, technology implementation and strategy formulation in the allied health, not for profit and corporate sectors. With Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science Veena’s contribution as an experienced and diversely skilled business woman adds greatly to Kalparrin’s exceptional Board capacity.
Secretary – Neville Birthisel
Neville was appointed to the Board in 2018, and is a parent whose child accesses services at Kalparrin. Neville is a Chartered Accountant with experience managing diverse teams in multinational companies, both in Australia and abroad. With specialities in compliance, strategy, international tax planning, projects and special assignments, Neville has worked with companies of all sizes, at all stages of their life-cycle, and across vastly different industries to enable those organisations to achieve their value proposition. As a leader and a mentor Neville has developed teams of strategically minded individuals with a drive to achieve success within their specialities and a desire to be the best they can be. He brings the same passion to his Kalparrin appointment. Neville is the current Chair of Kalparrin’s Finance, Audit and Risk Committee.
Treasurer – Chris Hipwell B. Bus Acc CA Chris is a passionate finance professional with extensive experience in strategic management, commercial advisory, corporate governance, due diligence and boardroom discussions. He brings over 20 years finance experience gained in medium to large organisations managing numerous system implementations and enhancement projects and budgeting and cost reduction assignments and complements this with a strong capacity in assessing company performance, developing personnel capability, identifying risk, and devising strategic operational responses. Chris provided his significant financial acumen to Kalparrin at a crucial phase in the organisation’s rapid development and growth under the National Disability insurance Scheme.
General Member – Rob Cecala Rob’s connection with Kalparrin was initiated over a decade ago through his children who attended Kalparrin. Rob is Kalparrin’s longest continually serving Board member and is passionate about Kalparrin’s family first approach and ensuring that everything done at Kalparrin drives the best possible outcome for the children it supports. Rob brings considerable skills and knowledge to the organisation from the building and construction sector and as a local Greensborough resident brings strong local knowledge and networks into Kalparrin.
General Member- Kobi Leins LLB Kobi was appointed to the Board in December 2017, and is a parent whose child previously accessed services at Kalparrin. Kobi holds a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honors) and a Bachelor of Laws, and has practiced in Berlin, Geneva and New York for the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and as a commercial litigator. Kobi is currently nearing completion of her doctorate in regulation of weaponry under international law, and brings extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector, high level strategic and program development and a passion for good governance.
General Member – Damian Moore Dip. Bus. (Gov), FICDA Damian was appointed to the Board in October 2014. He brings over 30 years’ experience in the Finance Industry, specialising in Business Credit, Risk Management and providing solutions for clients through every stage of their business life cycle – from start-up, through to growth, maintenance and succession planning. He is an active Volunteer with past Board / Committee representation in local sporting clubs and member based organisations. Damian is a passionate supporter of community organisations with a keen interest in community sector governance and risk management. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Community Directors Australia.
General Member- Lucas Moon B.Bus. MBA CPA Lucas was appointed to the Board in October 2014. He is an accomplished finance and commercial manager with extensive experience in the construction, engineering, technology and government sectors at a domestic and global level. He holds an MBA (Deakin University Business School) and a Bachelor of Business (Swinburne University of Technology). As a Certified Practising Accountant he has held a variety of senior financial and commercial positions including Commercial Manager at Lend Lease (current); Commercial Finance Manager – AIG and Project Accounting Manager – MWH Global.
